Ulmus americana // The American Elm Sticker
Once the pride of American streetscapes, the American Elm (Ulmus americana) stretched its vaulted canopy over neighborhoods across the country. Then Dutch elm disease arrived; a fungal blight that moved like a slow ghost, hollowing out boulevards and leaving behind sun‑blasted sidewalks where shade used to rule.
But not every elm died.
Among the many survivors helping to rebuild the species, one stands in the heart of Oklahoma City. The Survivor Tree. Scarred, and nearly cut down in the horror of April 19, 1995, it leafed out again, stubborn and alive, and became a symbol of what it means to endure. Not untouched. Not unbroken. Just unwilling to quit.
This sticker honors that lineage. The comeback of a species. The grit of Oklahoma. The truth that survival isn’t about avoiding harm, it’s about growing anyway, even when the world has been cruel.
